committees

Committees are made up of co-owners that volunteer their time to help improve the community and help the Board of Directors with projects and ideas, gathering key decision-making information, and planning events and initiatives. Membership on a committee takes about 1 hour per month maximum. Chairpersons may spend about 2-3 hours per month organizing and working with their committee.

If you'd like to get involved in a particular committee, the first step is to contact the committee's Chairperson or Board Liaison and they will help you determine how you can help with their current initiatives and help you be part of future ones. Remember everything you see going on in our neighborhood begins with volunteers lending a little of their time to improve our community. Get involved; lend your talents and ideas to making the Hills of Waterford an even better place to live!

Homeowner Tips

Furnace
Have you used your furnace yet this season?  If you haven't, you may want to make sure it's functioning properly before the real Michigan freeze sets in.  It's advisable to run your furnace and have the windows open as the dust that has settled since you last ran it, will burn and smell.  Run the furnace while you can still open the windows a little to let the house air out a little.  It is also a good idea to change your furnace filter for better efficiency and air quality.  If you haven't had your furnace checked in quite a while, standard inspection and routine maintenance of a qualified professional can catch problems early and help ensure it works properly and performs as it should.

Winterize your sprinklers
If you have an in-ground sprinkler system you'll want to protect your investment.  It's best to winterize it before the weather gets too cold.  Remember that your above ground components (the Pressure Vacuum Breaker attached to the house) will freeze faster then those below ground, so it's a good idea to get to it, before the temperature reaches freezing.

Vinyl Shutter restoration (Flood product, "Restora")
You may have noticed over the years that your shutters tend to fade with weathering and UV damage.  There is a new product by the Flood Co. that is specifically made to renew shutters. It is a two step process, but it looks very easy and the results are supposed to last for years. Flood usually makes good products, so it would be worth it to take a look. Lowe's or Home Depot would probably have it, or look for the Flood Co. website for more information.  You can paint shutters, but after cleaning your shutters, you have to prime them and then paint them.  You also have to use special primer and paint that adheres to vinyl/plastic. Painting/Caulking
In order to preserve the wood on your home it is recommended that you paint every few years and caulk seams of exterior wood.  Over time paint wears away and caulk dries up and cracks allowing moisture to penetrate the wood.  Painting and caulking seams will help protect the wood and ensure it lasts for many more years.
